Kenadie (primordial dwarfism) w Jake Petruzzelli (Achondroplastic Dwarfism) Both age 2
According to littlekenadie.com:
Kenadie Jourdin-Bromley ... was born Feb.13, 2003, weighing just 2 lbs, 8 ounces. Doctors were at a loss as to why she was born so small ... at the age of 8 months, Kenadie was finally diagnosed with primordial dwarfism, a genetic condition that is believed to affect only about 100 people in the world. She isn't expected to grow past about 30 inches or weigh more than 8 pounds.... Nearing the age of four, Kenadie now walks, runs, laughs, smiles and is beginning to talk.
This is the most amazing family portrait! As I see it, Kendie raises the possibility that WE are the hobbits, angels, leprechauns , etc. from our own legends! The right two people getting together who carry these rare genes will have this amazing result... which happens about once for every 3 million kids born.
If Kendie were to meet a male with primordial dwarfism, and if they were to have children, would the odds be 50% that they would have children of their same stature? Or... is it possible that two people with the genes for primordial dwarfism to have a human child as small to them as they are to us?
Meanwhile, back down to Earth, as you can imagine raising Kenadie presents special challenges. If you'd like to help you can donate on littlekenadie.com (PayPal accepted).
Some history:
Caroline Crachami was the first recognized individual with primordial dwarfism. She was born in Palermo, Italy in 1815. The exact history is unclear, but she traveled with a “Dr. Gilligan” with whom she did many appearances and exhibitions in London. Various descriptions arose from these exhibitions. She reportedly knew enough English to express herself fluently and her voice was described as thin and high-pitched.
Shortly before her death in 1824, a journalist named William Jerdan published her measurements. Her height was 19 ½ inches, the length of her foot, 3 1/8 inches and the length of her forefinger, 17/8 inches. Her head circumference was measured at 123/8 inches and her waist circumference, 11 ¼ inches. He wrote:
"Only imagine a creature about half as large as a new-born infant; perfect in all its parts and lineaments, uttering words in a strange, unearthly voice, understanding what you say and replying to your questions. Imagine I say, this figure of about 19 ½ inches in height and 5 pounds in weight, and you will have some idea of this most extraordinary phenomenon.” - pd

ReplyDeleteHi Nicole,
ReplyDeleteIf you ever talk to Kenadie, you could ask her if she likes to be called "cutie" or "cute". Some people do and some people don't. I added a few more pictures and a video. She would be about 6 years old now.
sup, how ya doin'
ReplyDeleteGee, no wonder why this little girl, whatever her name is, is pretty, cute and small, and stuff
ReplyDeleteUhhh...I think this girl is 6 years old nowadays, maybe. who knows.
ReplyDeleteActually, the chances of two primordial dwarfs conceiving a primordial dwarf child are currently understood to be 100%. The child would be same as them - perfect, yet miniature, and would be small in proportion to us, the majority, rather than small relative to the parents. However, while I have heard of a male primordial dwarf (some fellow nicknamed 'Mahau Mahau') having children, I've never heard of a female primordial dwarf bearing children. In fact, bearing children might be fatal, especially if the child is not a primordial dwarf.

ReplyDeleteHello,

I have watched the special on Kenadie numerous times. Last night I viewed the special on the little nine year old, with primordial dwarfism, for New Zealand. From what I can see these two little girls have very special and loving families. I know the parents have to have constant challenges and worries. But God put these little girls on this earth for a reason and I hope everyone can respect that. To me it appears they do age appropriate things and that is how they would like to be seen through other peoples eyes. They need to have physical adjustments made to accomadate their size and it appears both families do this. These parents and children should feel special and blessed for what they are doing in God's world. I wish the best to all families that have a child with this condition. They are truly special.
ReplyDeleteIs this alright if I call her princess?
ReplyDeleteHEEYYYYY!!!
ReplyDeleteMy name is Kaitlin I am 12 years old. Whats kool is that me and Kenadie are opposites. I am the size o the average 18 year old female. (5'5) How KOOL IS THAT!???

ReplyDeleteHi, I'm Dominique and I'm 13 years old. I was just showing my little sister who is 5 pictures of people with dwarfism, because she has dwarfism and I wanted to show her she is not alone, and that she is perfect the way she is. When she saw Kenadie's picture she became attatched to her. Watching her videos and looking at her pictures. She just wants to say,
ReplyDelete"You are very special just like me."
Hello,
ReplyDeleteI think it's wonderful that there are people with different shape, look, size, colour, whatsoever. If everybody would be similar, world wouldn't be good place. I don't know if it's
still same for everybody, there are still people believing that being different makes you not-so-good, but world is absolutely going better. I just wish people don't call Kenadie cute just because of her look. The most important is the inner. But she IS pretty. :)
Best wishes from Finland.
She's absolutely beautiful. Thank you for sharing your wonderful pictures and the video. You are truly blessed to have such a wonderful child in your life!
ReplyDeleteI'm 13 years old and i saw kenadie's show on discovery channel or sumthin and i just thought she was SO adorable! She's lucky shes not my sister cuz i would probably dress her up so much she would hate it! She's an inspiration to all of us!
ReplyDeleteI think you are so lucky to have such a wonderful child. We all wish our kids would stay little forever, but to our dismay, they grow up. I believe you are truly blessed to have such a blessing from god, and I wish I could have one of my children stay small forever. I can see the love in the eyes of everyone in each picture. you truly have a blessing from god.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry, is this all right if I just sorta look around and stuff?
ReplyDeleteI'm doing a project on primordial dwarfism and i must say that Kenadie is a inspiration to mothers out there, showing them not to give up. She's a beautiful yound lady, and i wish you all of luck and great health.

I just saw a program on kennedie last night and by now she's about 6years old? She is so adorable. How ever kennedie, you don't behave well in the Dr.'s office, but I'll let you get away with it. I have a favorite neice that if she knew she was even going to the Doctors, there was trouble. I really hope the best for you and your brother and Mom. I'm to old now to have baby's, but If I where younger, I'd like to have a little girl like you. Anne
