Somebody stirs the liquid in the glass which results in a similar warping of space (that is, reality) in the background? Cthulhu takes a sip? :D

The glass shakes and/or resonates, and after a few moments the sky begins to burn.
Someone jumps off the bridge and disappears down into the smoky middle of the glass.
