Steven Hoffer - The rescued Chilean miners will be pleased to know that Texas' Atascosa County is celebrating the South American country, albeit unintentionally and unconventionally.
Elections officials from the region south of San Antonio are trying to explain why the Chilean flag -- and not the similarly designed Texas flag -- is prominently displayed on the county's absentee ballot form.
Troy Knudson, a Ph.D. candidate studying in Japan, detected the error that apparently went unnoticed and uncorrected for several years.
"Apparently the insert has been used for some time without anyone (voters and staff) noticing," Knudson wrote in an e-mail to The Statesman. "I guess it's funny in some way, but my initial reaction was more disbelief that no one had noticed."
