Japan nuke crisis 'worse than Three Mile Island'

A baby is scanned for radiation in Nihonmatsu Two more reactors at the stricken Fukushima nuclear power station are at risk of overheating after their cooling systems failed.

Radiation levels around Japan's crippled power plant are falling, but the situation remains critical this morning.

Radioactivity soared to dangerous levels yesterday after a third explosion and a fire at the plant, with residents within 30 kilometres of the reactors told to evacuate or stay indoors.

France's nuclear watchdog has upgraded the situation to a level six - placing it second to Chernobyl as the world's worst nuclear disaster.

But winds are now dispersing the radioactive material over the Pacific Ocean, away from Japan and other Asian countries. ...
