I live in Ridgecrest California ( home of the China Lake Naval Weapons Center ) Today around 1:30 pm, I heard a jet flying above. I looked up and saw a large and unusual looking vapor trail maybe 15,000 or 20,000 feet high. Grabbed my high power binoculars but couldn't see the aircraft. Suddenly, about 1/4 mile in front of the vapor trail, holy cow, the most awsome aircraft I have ever seen! After searching all day on the internet, this Horten is the only aircraft similar to what I saw. The craft was very large and loud like a typical commercial jet. When I saw it, it was heading south but made a large ( 10 mile? ) loop and headed back north over the military base. It was for sure NOT a B1 bomber!! Any thoughts?????
Today?? Wow! Were the wings rounded or straight? Any other features you could make out? Could you please draw what you saw with a pen and paper, then send me the photo? xeno735@yahoo.com and I'll post it up. Or just follow the directions under "Upload your Pics". There are a lot of experts of all kinds visiting this site and I wonder if someone would be able to ID it for you.
