Boston (HealthKnowItAll) - Results of a new study published in the journal BMC suggest that treating autistic children with sessions in a hyperbaric chamber may have numerous benefits.
The study was performed by researchers from the US, and lends hope to a possible new approach when it comes to treating children diagnosed with the social disorder.
In the small study, children with autism who spent time in a hyperbaric chamber exhibited fewer symptoms associated with the condition, than other autistic children who did not receive the treatment.
The children treated in the hyperbaric chamber, were subjected to 40 1-hour sessions over a 4 week period.
Hyperbaric therapy involves breathing in 100% oxygen at a pressure greater than 1 atmosphere in a pressurized environment.
Currently there is no cure for autism which is said to effect as many as 1 in every 150 US children.

Thanks to Patrick who sent this with the comment, "Talk about your shots in the dark." I'd be interested to hear other people's thoughts and/or experiences with this:
