A murdered Filippino politician captured his killer on camera a moment before he was shot dead, with the photograph leading to the arrest of the gunman.
Caloocan district councillor Reynaldo Dagsa was taking a photograph of his wife, daughter and mother-in-law outside his house as the gunman approached and shot him in the chest. Mr Dagsa was rushed to hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
"While he was taking the picture of his family on New Year's Day, the killer appeared and he inadvertently took the picture of the killer with the gun aimed at him," local police chief Jude Santos said.
The family members said they did not hear a gunshot because the New Year fireworks were exploding all around them. They only saw Mr Dagsa falling to the ground after he was hit.
The family gave the photograph to the police, leading to the arrest of the gunman on Monday.
Police also arrested a suspected accomplice who was seen lurking in the background of the picture.
