If we all survive and the experiment goes right, however, we might understand how the entire universe was created.
The most powerful physics experiment ever built, the Large Hadron Collider will re-create the conditions just after the Big Bang in an attempt to answer fundamental questions of science and the universe itself.
On September 10th, CERN - the largest centre of particle physics research in the world, will switch on the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and in the process begin arguably the most ambitious science experiment ever undertaken. This "Big Bang Machine" will recreate conditions just a billionth of a second after the big bang and in the process may answer some of the most profound questions about our universe and how it all began.
By smashing particles together at speeds 99.99% the speed of light, scientists hope to answer some of the greatest mysteries in particle physics. What is mass? What is dark matter - the invisible but massive substance that fills the universe? Why is there no antimatter ? Are extra dimensions and parallel universes science fact rather than science fiction? - bbc
Personally, before the end, I had hoped for a big discovery like: Aliens, Bigfoot, Chupacabras, ESP, cold fusion, Time Travel, etc.
What have I been doing to prepare to be consumed by a black hole? Cleaning mostly. No, of course it won't matter. You?
Here is a bit of trivia. What is a hadron?
In particle physics, a hadron ... is a bound state of quarks. Hadrons are held together by the strong nuclear force, similar to how atoms are held together by the electromagnetic force. The best-known hadrons are protons and neutrons. - wiki
In case the end is near, so long. We had fun, didn't we? Thanks for reading my blog.
PS. Perhaps we will all emerge in another universe as we are ejected from a white hole somewhere.
UPDATE:
It would have been 1:36 AM our time today. That’s when they turned it on, but actually, “It will be weeks or months before two particles ever crash together in the giant tube” - news.au I found this comment on another site interesting:
“The Mayans wrote that the end of the world is on December 21, 2012. The Chinese I Ching also predicted it….on the same day. The Greek Oracle Sybil predicted it on that day too. So did the alleged “real Merlin”, who told shocking stories of the future to the locals. “‘Anything between a year and four years, depending on how difficult this new physics is to find,’ Mr Engelen said.” Four years! 2008+4=2012. Its September right now! Maybe this machine could cause the end of the world.”
So, we may have weeks, months, or even years left before every molecule on Earth is sucked through a horrendous man-made orifice the size of a mosquito.
OH WOW. I hope I’m wrong, but I think I’ve seen this thing coming. I finally understand a freaky dream I sometimes have. I’ve had nightmares about this once in a while, ever since I was a kid. I never knew what it was until now. In my dream, I am faced with an infinitely small noise, a pin point, something real, something smaller than anything but also more powerful than anything I’ve ever known, a killer. It is very cold. Infinitely cold. I’ve always described it to people as “a noise that is an incredible cold pin-point pressure pushing in on itself” but I never thought of it as a real thing outside of my dream. Has anyone else had this dream??
Recommendation: Pool parties. Enjoy this time, because the odds are unlikely that our space travel capabilities for ordinary citizens will allow us to go to another planet before this happens. No escape. Oh well. No one gets out alive anyway.

Nothing will happen..this is a media hype ;)
Hmph..I've Read About This.
It Was Nice While It Lasted.
I Personally Hate The Idea Of This, And Think It May Go Wrong :\

Yes, life has been quite sweet at times. Enjoy every minute. See you on the other side. - Xeno
if all goes to hell then at least we where there....
never heard about it before...maybe it is just a local hysteria?
Noone really knew what would happen if the atom bomb was fired in the atmosphere. People thought that the bomb would ignite the atmosphere itself and eradicate an lifeform on the surface. Same again for the LHC. Sure there is the possibility that some very rare and improbable condition will result in a disastrous effect, but that is science. Everyday biologists and chemists work with extremely infectious material; some of which could probably mean the end of humankind if it was released from containment. But noone is talking about that. I say, let it happen and see what comes out of it. That is the nature of humans and that is exactly what gave us the ability to even build somthing like the LHC. Without that, we would still sit in caves and hope for the next pray to stroll by.

It's out of our hands. They are going ahead and doing it - which suggests its safe. After all these big brains aint gonna wanna destroy the ground they walk on are they! It's all hype. They'll get the results they need and we'll all sit down in a few months to watch "The Men Who Made A Black Hole" on Channel 4 only to find out it was a black hole in theory that existed for only 1 billionth of a second. I'll watch it through the usual haze of Stella and crisps.
- see you on the other side -
How about this, God lets whacked out scientists blow themselves up in their effort to get passed, "In the beginning God...."
[...] So, the world is going to end tomorrow. Here is the short blog about it: Xenophilia. [...]
EARTH will No doubt end,but it Might be today Or 2012.
This is all bull how can ANYONE copy 99.99% the speed of light. This is probably another scam like how people say 2012 will end. It definitely won't end 2012 an it definitely wont' end tomorrow. God decides that.
The world ending, huh? Well, we all knew it would happen eventually. I just hope I don't die while I'm in class. Though I want an ironic death... Anyways, who knows? We maybe lucky and the machine doesn't work at all, or it works, and just doesn't blow us all to smirtherines. Either way I don't care what happens, I'm more interested to see what's beyond this life, that is if it has to end so soon.
Besides, it's us who decides what happens, or the scientists at least, not God. Either way we die by our own hands, or wait for a meteor to crush us in 2012. Or maybe we're lucky, this generation lives and it's the next that perishes...Who knows?
why does everybody say that God decides all this shit?
scientists have found evidence how the world was created
its not like some guy said: ''hey lets make a world''
lol an hour and a half till the the world dies....
i dont think its gonna happen though.. like seriouslyy.. as if they would risk something like that..
:)
Who knows if theyre wrong god shall save us all!!!!
One of my favorite quotes can handle all the god comments. "What if God doesn't care?" - Corey Taylor.
Whatever happens is out of our hands. People look at death as a terrible thing, but if the world ends, no one will be left to see it as a bad thing. Maybe the world can finally unite in something, for once. Once and for all that is.
But this whole thing has had me a bit paranoid. I keep thinking, will this be the last sandwich i enjoy? Will this be the last song i listen to? If so, would i be satisfied with what i've done up until now? I'm not sure, but ultimately, we've all done what life allowed us to do. Maybe they'll find out lots of things and everything will be fine, or better than fine. Maybe we'll find out all of life's answers today. I'd say it's a worthy gamble: it's literally all or nothing.
LOL@EARTH
bullshit????
is the world really gonna end in 2012?
i mean whats gonna cause that?
what r the ods of this going wrong. if there bad then see you all in hell
This will go wrong! God will never let us know how the entire universe was created. Think about that in the Bible... with Babels tower....he didn't let people do that either. And he mixed up the peoples language so they couldn't find out so much. Why are we people playing with God?! think about this and pray!
People are forgetting what would happen if it was a success and how the earth was made. It willdisprove god and everything that religon stands for and people will get pissed so success or not success either way its gona be a bad out come
Lmfao the meachine would make a great ride
WTF... if it was really gonna happen it would have happened today 10 AM like it was supposed to. it would take that fucking long to spread to the us. or is it 10 PM?.... any way it's bullshit.
However, it would be a really sweet way to die. and if it was a black hole, the earth would take like 5 hours to wipe out and everyone would be sucked through to space/ time continuum. therefore everyone one would die.
Oh well.. que sera sera... whatever will be, will be.. the future isn't ours to see.. lol... just enjoy the few minutes of your life..
i like this blog, it has jumped to top 100 blog now
I'll say this before it's too late: science has failed us once more. It will be a delayed flub, count on it. This thing isn't even at full power yet.
THE BLACK HOLE IS COMING LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL.
I died.
I guess if we go in a nanosecond we won't even know it happened. Imagine, no trace that the human race exhisted and we haven't even had the latest series of 24!
ya right. look , someones trying to scare us. we can u know , create black holes. but i beleive the world has a designated death date, and only god can change that. and hes a little more creative than british scientists or french or watev.
LOL, Well if the "End of the world" people had read the news properly, they would have realized that there are not to be any collisions yet, so its not going to create a black hole anyway.
Ive just done a little piece on my blog about this. Here in the UK we already have a black hole more frightening than anything the Hadron machine could make, its the financial black hole otherwise known as the 2012 Olympics.
If the Hadron Collider does create a black hole in the next few weeks, at least the UK taxpayer wont have to foot the bill for the Olympics.
If end comes in a few days or weeks, let's look at the bright side:
We don't have to worry about McCain's domestic policies (if he has any) or even whether he becomes president or not. We don't have worry about the ongoing human loss in the wars in Iraq or Afghanistan nor do we need to worry about a possible war with Iran or a conflict with Russia. We don't have to worry about the tension between Bush's administration and Venezuela or the rest South America for that matter. We don't have to worry about the carcinogens creeping into our degrading environment from our industrial neighbors, or the loss of near pristine wilderness areas to the highest industrial bidder, or problems with institutional racism, the loss academic freedoms, or the official neglect of poverty, illness and suffering in our own cities around the world. And, Xeno won't have to read my comments any more! So, ironically enough, for some of us the end might not be a bad thing.
Ann, but what if I enjoy your comments? In that case, we should get a Black Hole Bunker. (See new post.)
well Im only 15 and things are goin pretty good for me for once so I can only hope i make it to 30 years old which might or might not happen i just hope so.
stupid ass science to help the world....FUCK science its why i failed 7th grade....it will definetely go...boom or make black hole...which will be cool but...NOOOOOOO ITS SUCKIN ME IN
The only black hole is the one between the ears of anyone who thinks that this experiment has ANY chance of causing problems. Take a look for a minute at the world we live in.
Nearly every food product has "may contain nuts" on it, just incase of a slim chance it does and someone has an allergic reaction. Wet floor signs, mind your head signs, strobe lighting signs, the list goes on. We live in a world where there is a warning sign slapped on everything, just incase someone might want to sue. and people are worried that governments would allow an experiment that could destroy the world?
As Stephen Hawkin said, these collisions happen in our own atmosphere all the time. I think the worst case scenario will be a failed experiment and a waste of money.
Lordhaxor I forgot to mention, when you said "I will try to grasp the infinite wisdom of your posts."
I really hope you do. But if you cant grasp the wisdom at least read and quote me correctly.
