Explosions Rock U.S. Embassy in Yemen

"One objective of these extremists is to kill, to try to cause the United States to lose our nerve, and to withdraw from regions of the world," President Bush said. "And our message is that we want to help governments survive the extremists. We want people to live normal lives. We want mothers to be able to raise their sons and daughters in a peaceful environment so they can realize the hopes and dreams of a better world." Yemen has long been a focus of U.S. security concern. The Navy ship USS Cole was bombed in 2000 by al-Qaida members in a speedboat in the Yemeni port of Aden, killing 17 U.S. sailors.

Non-essential U.S. embassy personnel and dependents were evacuated from Yemen after a mortar attack on diplomatic housing in April, and were allowed to return only last month. State Department Spokesman McCormack said the Yemeni government has made strides in boosting security, but could do more.  While a group calling itself Islamic Jihad in Yemen has claimed responsibility for the attack, McCormack said the United States has suspicions that al-Qaida or a local affiliate may be to blame. - voa

Yemeni Islamic Jihad leader arrested

Yemeni police have arrested a leader of the Islamic Jihad movement in the southern province of Abyan following a five-year search. A leading figure of Yemen's Islamic Jihad, Khaled Abdul Nabi was captured outside his house in the city of Ja'ar in Abyan late on Friday after police followed a suspicious car that came to his house. A gun battle broke out between police forces and armed followers of Abdul Nabi in the streets of Ja'ar after the arrest and lasted for several hours, witnesses said. They said police evacuated residents of houses in the vicinity of the firefight.  At least three policemen were injured in the shootout in Ja'ar ... Although Yemen is the ancestral homeland of Osama bin Laden, the Islamic Jihad movement has no links to bin Laden's al-Qaeda network. - presstv

This says there is no al-Qaeda link. Did this attack seem different from other Islamic Jihad movement attacks? Does PressTV know something about the movement (not being linked to al-Qaeda) that US generals don't?
