Looks like a cougar backlash is brewing, and a businesswoman in Providence, R.I., is the cattiest critic of all.
The woman, who calls herself "Connie A. Cougar," is so disgusted by the so-called cougar craze that she is starting an empowerment campaign to prove that women "of a certain age" who still look good shouldn't be labeled as cougars.Cougar -- who is keeping her real name a secret, presumably because she fears reprisals from cougars -- decided to pull out her claws after an experience a year ago when she was called a cougar while out with friends.
"I was out with a group of friends and we were asked if we were cougars," Cougar told AOL News. "It struck us as odd and funny."
The more Cougar thought about the incident, the more that it bothered her.
"A woman should be able to date men who are younger or older. Men do it without any stigma," she said. "Can't a woman of a certain age be confident without a label? If I was with a younger guy, age wouldn't be the determining factor."
After thinking about it some more, Cougar decided that if she felt that way, other women probably did too. So she is trying to band them together with her "I'm Not a Cougar" campaign, which she hopes gives a voice to women who don't want to be compared to a predatory feline.
