The world's largest commercial airliner, the Airbus A380, is due to land at Manchester Airport later.
Emirates will fly the 517 seat, double-decker aircraft from Manchester to Dubai daily.
Manchester will be the first regional airport in the world to have a daily A380 service. The jet has flown into London Heathrow since 2008.
Thousands of people are expected to watch the plane touch down at the airport for the first time at 1225 BST.
Andrew Cornish, managing director of Manchester Airport, said: "This is a really significant day for aviation here in the North West and we aim to celebrate it appropriately."
Manchester Airport has invested more than £10m in the past 18 months upgrading its airfield so the super-jumbo can land.
