Jail? Complete waste of taxpayer money. Are you telling me any homeless guy can go get 90 days free room and board at the county jail by pulling a stunt like this? If he was serious about getting hot over a max-vac, check him in to a mental hospital and get him some therapy.

Prisons and jails are a multi-billion dollar industry in the US today. So, why not send him to jail - support the economy .... as great as it is.

(You see, no one has come up with a plan to make money with mental hospitals... So, they're just a thing of the past. Big pharma saw to that.)

I have always imagined the illusion of the jail system as a profit maker is because while some local officials or local government may make money off of fines etc, by and large there is always a massive money sink in the form of tax payer dollars going into the jail - therefore forming a large net loss.

I think the difference between jails and mental hospitals is that mental hospitals (sometimes just a single ward or floor in a normal hospital) are actually paid for by the people in there, not taxpayers (if I am correct). I don't know that much about the current state of large mental institutions or how they are paid for, but I do know from experience that there are psych wards inside hospitals that are paid for normally.
