Woman Has World's Largest Breast Implants Removed

Breast implants_20090205190245259_JPGSheyla Hershey’s fight to save her M cup breast implants came to an end Thursday, as she underwent surgery in Richmond, Tex., to have them removed, myFOXhouston.com reported.

Hershey -- who was trying to achieve fame for having the largest breasts in the world and has had over 30 plastic surgeries -- was plagued by severe infections and high fevers after her most recent implant surgery in Brazil in June 2010.

Because implants as large as Hershey’s are illegal in the U.S., the Brazilian-born Houston, Tex., resident went to her home country earlier this year for the surgery.

But after the operation, Hershey became seriously ill and has since been closely monitored by a cosmetic surgeon, Dr. Ron Bucek, and an infectious disease expert, Dr. Shazia Gill, in Texas.

Before Thursday's surgery to remove the implants, Bucek performed two other operations to help drain the infected areas, and a special vacuum had been suctioning the infection from Hershey’s body 24 hours a day for months.

"It's the only thing that has saved my life, to be honest,” Hershey said of the device, though she added that it was "annoying" and "heavy."

In a pre-surgery interview, Hershey said she was finally ready for all four implants -- two in each breast -- to be removed.

"I decided to go smaller -- a lot smaller. I just want a normal size like a normal housewife has," she said. ...

Wow - being a woman and psychologist I ask myself if doctors don't have an ethical responsibility to place limits on the number of plastic surgeries a person can undergo. Although I find it sad, I am all for personal choice but there's a point at which it becomes clear a mental disorder is an aspect.

That being said, do guys like fake breasts? I've been told the answer is yepper! I'd love to see a survey on that one!

Interesting post!!!

Some do. Not me. I prefer prosthetic foreheads.

Don't doctors have an ethical responsibility to not perform any unnecessary surgery. Plastic surgery should be limited entirely to repairing essential surgery, injury or disease damaged tissue in my humble opinion. This woman presumably had financial gain in mind before paying a doctor to mutulate her body. I hope she makes a full recovery.
And Lauren, you do your gender an injustice by inviting your suggested survey.

The majority of men do not find them to be an improvement. At least that was true 8 years ago. From a 2002 poll: "The survey, (conducted for Adam & Eve by Harris Interactive), found that 47 percent of men - nearly half of those polled - think that women look sexier before they get artificial breast implants. Only 21 percent of the males surveyed think women look sexier after getting implants. ... The random-digit telephone survey conducted by Harris Interactive of 1,000 adults ages 18 to 65 was sponsored by Adam & Eve to study American attitudes toward sexuality."

a beautiful woman is often a happy woman, even though happy women are rarely beautiful
