Alcohol is even worse than heroin and crack on the list of "most harmful" drugs, according to a new study published in the British medical journal, The Lancet.
A variety of social, physical and psychological problems that are caused by drugs were examined by a panel of experts, who concluded that alcohol, heroin and crack were the most harmful to others while heroin, crack cocaine and methamphetamine were the most harmful to individual users, CNN reported.
Dr. Petros Livados, director of the Addiction Institute of New York at St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital, agreed with the study findings.
"Both in terms of the medical consequences as well as societal consequences, I agree that alcohol ranks very high in overall harmfulness,"he told the News. "Alcohol has tremendous repercussions in our society in terms of drunk driving and societal consequences.”
Twenty drugs were scored on 16 criteria – nine related to the harms that a particular drug does to an individual and seven to the harms a drug does to others. All the drugs were scored out of 100 points, and overall, alcohol came in the highest, at 72 points, according to The Lancet. Heroin came in second with 55 points and crack cocaine took third place with 54 points.
While cocaine and tobacco were found to be equally harmful, LSD and ecstasy were found to be the least harmful, according to BBC.com. ...

I still think it's hard to believe that LSD is less harmful. You can have a DRINK and not be in a drunk state ... But a hit of ACID, isn't that a completely different trip? We all have to be responsible for our own choices, a little moderation perhaps?
Alcohol and tobacco are obviously the worst of the worst . Doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that . Just look at the statistics ! Most people don't look at either as a drug . But if you took the drug effect out of Alcohol you wouldn't find many people partaking in it . No buzz, no good ! No matter how little you drink . You are most likely drinking for the effect not the taste ! Alcohol is mind altering even in small amounts . LSD can alter the mind more in larger amounts yes. But physically LSD is not linked with much physical harm to ones self by way of disease . Unless you are looking at accidents caused by mental ,or motor control issues . If you took a hundred people got them drunk . And put them in a holding area for an hour . You would see a lot of violence . If you did the same with LSD you would see less of that I think . LSD is more of an internal effect . Where people on alcohol seem to project what they are feeling more outwardly . Just about any beer party you would go to there will be several violent people . Not so much at an LSD party ;-) The media has exaggerated LSD as a RAGE inducing drug which is far from the truth . They have also villainized Marijuana based on some delusional paranoia . No logic involved in drug laws ! Or peoples attitudes ! ;-/
