A 50-year-old man identified as David Lee Rothe surrendered to SWAT officers at about 1:15 p.m. today after the SWAT team forced its way into his home in the upscale Belleview Acres Park area of southwestern Jefferson County.

Rothe, who had faced foreclosure eviction, had barricaded himself in the home and refused to come out, according to Mark Techmeyer, spokesman for the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office.

However, Techmeyer said that once the SWAT team made contact with Rothe in the home he offered no resistance.

Rothe was led from the home in handcuffs.

He was wearing a red shirt and blue jeans but no shoes.

As he was led to a sheriff's car, he yelled angrily at bystanders.

Prior to the entry of the SWAT team, Jefferson County authorities had sent a robot into the home.

Jacki Kelley, spokeswoman for the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, said that the sheriff's department had been negotiating with the man for approximately a month, trying to convince him to leave.

She said that about 9 a.m. today, the sheriff's department civil unit went to the home in the 5300 block of South Zinnia Court with a court order to evict Rothe.

That's David Lee Rothe, not David Lee Roth, who is actually 56 now.
