One resident, Wolfgang Peter, said the deafening sound of the earth moving woke him up early in the morning. "First I heard the rushing of water, and then it sounded as if a dozen gravel trucks were being emptied," Peter told the German newspaper Thuringer Allgemeine, according to Der Spiegel. ... Jurgen Reinholz, a spokesman for the region of Thuringia, where Schmalkalden is located, told Der Spiegel he believed the cause of the sinkhole was likely a natural one and not related to excavations at a nearby salt mine.

Seriously, you people who always say, "I knew it all the time..." this is your chance! Tell us now what caused this...before the rest of the world knows and prove your alien super powers. ;-)

Well, here's my hypothesis. Actually, it might have been Admiral Byrd's (wasn't he the early explorer, adventurer of Antarctica?)if he had some imagination. He talked about the Earth being hollow and that there was highly advanced blue-(or some color)-skinned beings living inside the Earth. Well, obviously, they're angry (After all, we haven't been doing a good job keep our waste chemicals out of the ground water. Have we?) 1st Guatemala and now this! Just wait for the next installment in the "Rage of the Beings from Inner Earth."

Why are the sink holes all about the same size? What/who was eaten by these impromptu earth mouths? This is probably the new Santa Claus getting ready for the upcoming holiday. The gloves are off. Be good this year, or he will eat your whole damn house! ;-)
