District police have been pleased with the reduction of homicides in the city so far this year.  But an explosion of violence Tuesday night in Southeast was a harsh reminder that guns and violence are still a major issue in D.C. Nine people were shot in an apparent drive-by in southeast Washington Tuesday evening, and four D.C. police officers were injured pursuing possible suspects into Prince George's County. "I don't have a memory of this many people being shot at one time in the District of Columbia," assistant police chief Peter Newsham said. Orlander Carter, 20; Nathaniel Simms, 26; and a 14-year-old were arrested. Carter was charged with three counts of first-degree murder while armed and one count of second-degree murder while armed Wednesday. Simms was charged with three counts of first-degree murder while armed. They are scheduled to return to court April 15. -

Former D.C. Mayor Marion Barry is currently the D.C. Councilman who represents the area. Himself no stranger to drug-related problems, said he was ’saddened’, ‘outraged’ and ‘angry’ by the incident. Barry referred to the violence as ‘crew’ rather than gang-related. Apparently a ‘crew’ is a group of friends who are not organized into a ‘gang’. Washington, D.C. has strict gun-control laws, yet it has one of the highest violent crime rates in the nation. It competes for the ‘murder capital’ of the country with other cities with strict gun-control laws.

former Mayor Marion Barry? ... please! ... a man out for himself, alone ...

The life expectancy in Washington D.C. is one of the lowest in the country, that is, other than that on some Indian reservations. And, it's the lowest in all Western countries.

The poverty in the Nation's capital and other cities is outrageous. And higher than other Western countries.

Although we're told racism is a thing of the past, a young black males are the least employed segment of U.S. society. And, they're over represented in U.S. prison system causing a violent prison-type-of-culture to be widespread.

And, furthermore, it's an American right to carry guns to, of course, protect oneself. Some people think all citizens should be able to protect themselves, not just those who haven't broken a law. Illegal weapons are widespread ... AK47 anyone?

Putting all this together, what does anyone really expect from a people who don't have much a future, which now may include whole lot more than just young black males? I suspect more of this sort of chaos will occur in the future in other cities. And, it'll be an excuse for increased law enforcement - something militarized Americans are really good at - to perpetuate the hell all Americans, all of them including especially the silent ones, have dug themselves into.

Please welcome Armageddon ...
