A Palos Hills woman was out walking her dog when she says a pack of rabid raccoons attacked her and her service dog.
Kathleen Woods, who lives at the Riviera Condo complex off 111th Street, said the attack occurred July 29. Three large raccoons weighing 35 pounds each emerged from a storm drain in the curb and knocked her down, then bit her repeatedly on the legs, hand and buttocks. Her dog also was bitten, she said.
"They wouldn't stop," she said. "I was laying down screaming, I couldn't get back up."
She said a neighbor came to her aid and the raccoons backed off.
Woods filed a police report of the attack. She also showed CBS 2 the report from the hospital where she was taken. It recommended she start rabies shots immediately.
Woods says her dog is going to be OK. She says the rabies shots she has received are painful and she gets a high fever from them.
Neighbors confirmed the presence of large raccoons in the residential area. Woods said her local government could do more to contain or capture the animals.
Officials could not be reached for comment Monday night after CBS 2 interviewed Woods.

This was only a test. The raccoons have a plan. They are waiting for the day when we are too slow to out run them. Then they will strike.
