God tells South Carolina woman to kills and burns 'devil dog' after pup bites bible.

Miriam Fowler Smith, 65, told cops she killed her nephew's pitbull after the animal chewed on her Bible. A South Carolina woman is claiming an act of canine cruelty was simply an act of divine intervention.

Miriam Fowler Smith, 65, told cops on Monday that she hung and burned her nephew's pit bull after the animal took a bite out of her bible.

She claimed God urged her to kill Diamond, a 1-year-old female dog, because the animal was a "devil dog" and would hurt neighborhood children.

Smith was arrested on Sunday and remains in Spartanburg County jail. She could face faces 180 days or up to five years behind bars if she's convicted with felony animal cruelty.

She does not have a lawyer yet.

Authorities said Smith confessed to wrapping an extension cord around Diamond's neck, hung the animal from a tree, and then set the pup on fire.

Andy Fowler, the dog's owner and Smith's nephew, left home on Jan. 9. When he returned on Jan. 15, his beloved dog was missing.

When Fowler confronted his aunt, she admitted to killing the dog, according to cops. ...

Police found the dead canine nearby under a pile of dried grass. Part of the orange cord was still wrapped around the dog's neck. The smell of kerosene lingered in the air, according to animal control's report.

Jaime Nelson, director of the county's Environmental Enforcement Department, said Smith's mental state could affect what type of punishment she receives.

He was shocked by the woman's detached attitude as she recounted the horrific slay. ...

Sex change? Anyway, how such demented individual avoided prison for 65 years is the real mystery. What else did God tell her do? Here are some unsolved murders in the area. Might want to check her back yard.

Actually, it is my understanding that God has often commanded his subjects to kill -- get this! -- PEOPLE! For instance, on a whim, God told Abraham to kill his own son! Is it really a surprise when we hear of people like the one in the article? I mean, once you will adhere to a God who would have a man kill his own son FOR ABSOLUTELY NOTHING, what's a dog?

Someone's probably going to tell me that I "just didn't get it" about God and Abraham, and/she will be correct. I don't get it, and I don't want to get it.

Dear Sam,
the last post made no sense, that's why people would say you "wouldn't get it".

But isn't generalizing people who believe a religion a biased stump, and therefore a non objective point of view? It seems an objective post wouldn't even contrive to the written word "god" and say "damn straight that crazy bitch got caught!".

Well, I guess what I'm trying to say is that if this woman is crazy, so was Abraham. Or, if Abraham was just following what he believed to be God's command, we have to accept that this poor, nutty woman could also have been. It's ridiculous to think that one of these people's faith was "legitimate" and the other one is simply crazy. Frankly, there seems to be more evidence (if you could call it that) that this woman was talking to God. After all, we know conclusively that //she// exists, yet we cannot prove that either Abraham OR God are/were real. Thus, most of Christianity's followers are alright with these possibly mythological characters carrying out insanity; however, when a real, tangible person does it, she's "obviously" a nut.

It's no secret as it's a matter of public record: Our former president has claimed that God told him to war with Saddam's Iraq.

Seeing how contemporary Christianity in the US, in particular, focuses on the Old Testament of the Christian bible, is Bush, ... are we guilty?

Anyone who studies the Old Testament of the Christian bible will find a lot of death and/or suffering commanded, suggested and/or condoned by the Christian "God."

But, Gods are cultural creations.

Other Gods or gods, or heavenly beings that occupied conspicuous positions in other religious mythologies weren't so cruel, some were actually peace-loving.

We, Christians, are merely stuck with one who ain't. And, we continuously and will forever pay the price.
