After testing samples of the lesions and Dede's blood, Dr Anthony Gaspari of the University of Maryland concluded that his affliction is caused by the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV), a fairly common infection that usually causes small warts to develop on sufferers. Dede's problem is that he has a rare genetic fault that impedes his immune system, meaning his body is unable to contain the warts.
The virus was therefore able to "hijack the cellular machinery of his skin cells", ordering them to produce massive amounts of the substance that caused the tree-like growths known as "cutaneous horns" on his hands and feet. Dede's counts of a key type of white blood cell are so low that Dr Gaspari initially suspected he may have the Aids virus. But tests showed he did not, and it became clear that Dede's immune condition was something far rarer and more mysterious. ...

Dr Gaspari, who became involved in the case through a Discovery Channel documentary, believes that Dede's condition can be largely cleared up by a daily doses of a synthetic form of Vitamin A, which has been shown to arrest the growth of warts in severe cases of HPV.
"He won't have a perfectly normal body but the warts should reduce in size to the point where he could use his hands," Dr Gaspari said. - telegraph

After reading about this rare, extreme rare condition that this poor man has, i sure hope that the doctors do find a cure for him. No one needs to go through life looking and feeling like a tree.

tarik....the disease is called Human Pappiloma Virus or just (HPV). It's actually a very common disease and many folks carry it, but it doesn't usually do this. This case is rare, and just simply one of those curiosities.

It just goes 2 show that the same elements that it takes to create a tree are the same elements that make up the human body only in a different form... We all are small universes on the inside (why else would they call it a sol-plexus (sol from old latin meaning sun/center of chest cavity and univerese). It's caused by the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV). The human papillomavirus is the name for a group of viruses that includes more than 100 different strains or types. Over 30 of these different viruses are sexually transmitted. But I don't think the strain that he has is transmittable. The problem here is that he came in contact with it and his immune system could not fight it off like a normal person would.
Just like if I caught chicken pox and had never had it before. (Which btw Chicken pox is a form of Herpes, too.)
In some cases people can also have flare ups of things like shingles when they are very stressed out, have a low immune system, or they are weak after a major surgery.
The Chicken Pox virus lies dormant in your nerves and when the time comes they spring up out and cause horrible painful blisters. And that is supposed transmittable to those who have NOT have Chicken Pox so be careful! And if you stay healthy and try to remain stress free (yeah right! lol)you should be fine!

I can't understand how someone can show compassion with this man's suffering, and end her comment with "May God bless"! Obviously there can't be a God who would punish a human with a disease like that. Otherwise this God of yours must be the meanest S.. of a B.. in the universe.
Anyways, as this man, together with other unfortunate folks are doing curiosity performances (some call it Freak Shows), and as he comes from a poor family, he, at the end, refused treatment, fearing for his income.
This is surely the worst punishment, to have to continue living like that out of fear to end up without any money to buy some food. Can there really be a God this cruel??????????
