Iraq's capital wants the United States to apologize and pay $1 billion for the damage done to the city not by bombs but by blast walls and Humvees since the U.S.-led invasion that toppled Saddam Hussein.
The city's government issued its demands in a statement on Wednesday that said Baghdad's infrastructure and aesthetics have been seriously damaged by the American military.
"The U.S. forces changed this beautiful city to a camp in an ugly and destructive way, which reflected deliberate ignorance and carelessness about the simplest forms of public taste," the statement said.
"Due to the huge damage, leading to a loss the Baghdad municipality cannot afford...we demand the American side apologize to Baghdad's people and pay back these expenses."
The statement made no mention of damage caused by bombing. ...

Let's not bicker and argue about who made who's city into a lump of mud. Back in 2007 we were spending $720 million a day on the Iraq war (wash post), so we can certainly spare 2 days of war money to rebuild the city, once we are done knocking it around.

We could do this one of three ways . We can hand them 1 bill and watch them run off with it . Or we could do the work to beautify the city for 1 bill and it'll probably look like downtown Shitsville USA when we get done . A Starbucks here a Starbucks there , here a Starbucks there a Starbucks , everywhere a Starbucks ! :-| Or we could just say " NO YOU DIDenT !!! " " Speakith to the Handith ! " They got billions in oil ! We spent way too much over there ! Lost all those lives for what ? So they can turn around and ask the American people to pay even more for a war they didn't ask for in the first place ! Let Bush pay ! Him and Dick C. probably stole 10 times that ! They probably wouldn't notice an odd 1 bill out of their Cayman accounts ;-)
+1. All opposed? *Crickets* Good. The matter is settled then. Bush and Cheney will pay and the Iraqi's can meet them at a Starbucks to collect the billion. *Gavel*
Next case?
Works for me ! ;-)
