Here's an interesting visualisation of data from the National UFO Reporting Center (NUFORC): the National UFO Sighting Mapping, Analysis, and Tracking Integration Cybersite maps reported UFO sightings on a map of the United States and the border provinces of Canada. This video is a collection of 14-day "density" plots for 12 months from March 2010 to March 2011 (red indicates a lot of sightings, through to purple for few sightings).

2 possible conclusions:
1. The Montanese are a particularly sane bunch not prone to delusions.
2. Not even UFOs want to go there.
I think it's more likely a case of not enough people to see anything. We're about the size of France of Germany, with fewer than a million people in residence. Not to mention the UFO sightings in Wyoming weren't particularly abundant, and their population density is similar.
Thanks, but neither your explanation nor Cheng's options explain the good number of sightings in Montana from 3/1/2010 to 3/15/2010.
